As a natural curly head, I’ve had the hardest time finding a shampoo that suits my locks in Egypt. You can’t just pick up a sulfate-free shampoo from your nearest supermarket. You have to find some fancy boutique or hairdresser that has it, and when you do, it costs an arm and a leg! It’s also very hard to find a sulfate-free shampoo that’s silicone-free. So, what does a dedicated naturally curly girl like myself do? I create my own product! I know it’s a bit of hassle, but once you try it the first time, you’ll feel so empowered there’s no turning back.

Luckily, with several stores like Nefertari and Imtenan, acquiring ingredients for natural concoctions has never been easier! So, if you’re in the mood to get to know my secret recipe for a natural curly cleanser, read on!

Ingredients:

½ a cup of Neferatari natural shampoo

½ cup of Nefertari natural conditioner [it’s one of the few products on the market that has my favourite raw ingredient: cocoa butter]

1 tablespoon of coconut oil [can find in Nefertari or Imtenan]

1 tablespoon of Jojoba oil

½ teaspoon of wheat germ oil [great source of vitamin E]

20 drops of tea tree essential oil [great for the scalp, helps avoid itching and dandruff]

10 drops of peppermint essential oil

Optional: you can add an extra essential oil with a scent of your liking if you don’t favor the scent of the mixture above

How to?

In an empty bottle [I use an old plastic pump from a previous Nefertari product], combine the ingredients and mix.

Voila! It’s ready to use! Yup, simple, natural, and full of ingredients that love your hair. Also, the ingredients last longer, so it costs less and saves more. Don’t you just love mother nature?!
