The 20th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards was held on 18/1/2014, we know it’s a bit old but we saved it till after the finals; which means more fashion from the red carpet! Excited?! Let’s cut to the chase and get to the frocks and fashion!
Top 5 Best Dressed
Amy Adams in Antonio Berardi
Amy Adams managed to put in the right amount of classic Hollywood glamour with a twist of modernity that we love! Amy wore an Antonio Berardi dress which had a classic silhouette with the side slit & sparkly belt that flaunted her slim figure with a modern cut on the top that stood out, Jimmy Choo shoes, Salvatore Ferragamo clutch, and Cartier jewels. She even matched her classical old Hollywood hairdo with a more modern coral lip colour. Smart girl!
Lupita Nyong’o in Gucci
The dazzling Kenyan actress won best supporting actress at the SAGs for her role in 12 Years a Slave, and our fashionable hearts with that dress. She looks simply breath taking! How many people can pull off a unique turquoise Gucci dress, with gold & turquoise floral embellishments, like this!? She accessorized with a golden clutch, and a gold Fred Leighton ring.
Laura Carmichael in Vionnet
Downtown Abbey’s Laura Carmichael knows how to use shine the right way. In an understated gold Vionnet dress, accessorizing with black polish, black Jerome C. Rousseau shoes, a black Lauren Merkin clutch, and Rona Pfeiffer jewellery – we love the cracked black bangle!
Kelly Osbourne in Zac Posen
For once, Kelly Osbourne, reporting for E! News, stunned us in a cobalt blue Zac Posen dress that flattered her curvy figure.
Julia Roberts in Valentino & Sandra Bullock in Lanvin
Oh we said 5?! So I cheated, sue me! When floor length frocks get boring it’s hard to deviate and stand out in the crowd at the same time. But these two nominees of the night did excellently putting their best foot forward, whether in a jumpsuit or asymmetrical dress we’re pleased with this refreshing variety of style. Julia wore a Valentino jumpsuit, YSL shoes, Roger Vivier clutch, and Wilfredo Rosado earrings. Sandra wore a metal green Lanvin dress, Jimmy Choo shoes, Roger Vivier clutch, and Fred Leighton jewellery.
The Worst Looks
Rose Leslie in Temperley London
Rose Leslie seemed to be challenging her Game of Thrones wildlings character on the red carpet or maybe she lost her outfit so she strapped on a spare duvet with some lace lying around and called it an outfit!
The Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bailik might have been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series but she won’t be nominated for an award in the fashion department any time soon. What a waste of lace!
Kerry Washington in Prada
To tell you the truth we still can’t believe it IS Prada! Kerry looked quite nice in the Golden Globes it’s surprising that she showed up wearing a mis-fitting cropped pink top & an over-larged skirt showing off a lot of midriff! How many mistakes can one do in an outfit!
Cate Blanchett in Givenchy
Cate might have won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her performance in Blue Jasmine and blessed us with a new GIF that we’re totally fans of; but she didn’t nail it in the fashion department. While some critics loved her out-of-box fashion statement, others didn’t approve of the sack-like dress or the handkerchief dangling from her neck.
Abigail Breslin in Chagoury
There’s no questioning the fact that the 17 year old actress turned heads, including ours, that night with this sexy number that flattered her curves; but others found her addition of a glittery shrug a little off. What do you think?
Natalie Dormer in Marios Schwab
Recently Natalie had to shave her head for her role as Cressida in The Hunger Games film series, quite dedicated and brave of her, which can be kind of hard to dress up for the red carpet. Her take; she took edge to a whole new level with a body con white dress with net sleeves, a French braid till the nape of her neck, and ear cuffs (one of my favourite trends this year). Some would say she pulled off edgy perfectly, others would say it was a little too much edge. The final vote goes to you readers!
Juliette Lewis in Vivienne Westwood
When choosing Vivienne Westwood dresses, it’s like you’re flipping a coin. It’s either a love or hate situation and you know the celeb dressed will never win in the fashion department. Juliette Lewis braved the red carpet with this turquoise floral dress which some thought it suited her figure and flattered her neckline, others hated the pattern. You can’t win them all with Vivienne, that’s my say.
Other Notable Looks
I confess; I’m obsessed and in love with Marchessa. Where would we be without her ethereal touch of elegance on the red carpet to keep us smiling?
Oprah in Badgley Mischka
Oprah is one of these celebs who know how to age beautifully, and how to flaunt her curves as well. We love this elegant Badgley Mischka dress with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery.
Helen Mirren in Escada
Helen Mirren gave us an oh-la-la moment with this espaniolle-esque Escada dress. Does this woman ever get it wrong?
Sophie Turner in Dolce&Gabbana & Maisie Williams
Heads up for the teen stars of the Game of Thrones Series! Each girl hit the right notes with their dresses. Sophie opted for a very feminine D&G dress with a lovely satin blush bow (check the backside here) and flaunted her best accessory; her gorgeous red hair with a side do. Maisie on the other hand, dressed her athletic shoulders with a crew neck, and flaunted her small figure with an elongating white sheath dress –clever trick for petite girls!
The most famous & iconic clutch of the red carpet yet! The customized Breaking Bad bag made for Anna Gunn, winner of Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role as Skyler in Breaking Bad, by Eddie Parker is predicted to be a collectable item in the future.
