The Golden Globes were last Sunday (or Monday our time), and I’m totally late with the fashion recap of the night (apologies but I’m having a terribly hectic schedule this week, I’m sure you understand). Overall, we weren’t very impressed by the fashion sense of the night but here it goes; read on to see the best & worst looks of the night.

Top 5 Best Dressed

Margot Robbie in Gucci

Refined Elegance.

The Australian actress – nominated alongside her “The Wolf of Wall Street” co-stars in the Best Motion Picture (musical or comedy) – opted for a bejeweled Gucci gown, Christian Loubotine shoes (same color as the jewels on the dress- loving minor details) and Van Cleef & Arpel jewels. The side-slit is sultry but not over the top. The simple elegance of this look is simply stunning.

Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad

Finally, Zuhair made something worthwhile!

Finally a Zuhair Murad dress that has hit my best list! Kate Beckinsale looked exquisite in a silver, mermaid Zuhair Murad dress with details on the rough side and Chopard jewels.

Melissa Rauch in Romona Keveza

Funny and Beautiful! Killer combo!
Funny and Beautiful! Killer combo!

Melissa Rauch, “The Big Bang Theory” star, proves you can be both funny and beautiful! This neat off-the-shoulder yellow draped dress is cinched at all the right places flattering her curvy figure, and the color screams for attention in a way far better than sparkle. (For those who say that she & Lena Dunham caused double vision with their dresses; a great color cannot make a hideous dress as beautiful as this).

Amber Heard in Atelier Versace

Smoky black; can't go wrong with that!
Smoky Blue; can’t go wrong with that!

Looks like the side slit is quite in on this red carpet! Amber Heard hit us with an Angelina leg shoot before hitting the stage later that night. Leave it to Versace to revive Greek goddess elegance in a dress – personally I’m far more in love with the back details than the front. Amber completed her look with a dramatic pompadour, smoky eye, and Jimmy Choo shoes.

Emilia Clarke in Custom Proenza Schouler

A look that compliments Dragon Lady!
A look that compliments Dragon Lady!

Side slits are definitely in! Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke had a custom made gown by Proenza Schouler for the night. We’re not sure if it is guipure lace or quite an interesting black and white print, either way it’s unique and eye catching.

Worst Dressed

Sadly some of our favorite celebs made it to this list but when it comes to fashion statements, I have no favorites! Here are the ones that got us cringing.

Zoe Saldana in Prabal Gurung

Zoe, Zoe, Zoe... *tsk tsk*
Zoe, Zoe, Zoe… *tsk tsk*

Zoe said on the red carpet that Prabal Gurung designed this dress with her in mind; we say Parabal must think highly of her! This reminds me of our arts and crafts lessons in school and they weren’t that crafty since we were only 6! And from the looks of Zoe’s awkward looking feet, it looks like she figured that out herself a little too late!

Sandra Bullock in Parabel Gurung

Apparently that Parabel guy hates his job!
Apparently that Parabel guy hates his job!

Parabel Gurung strikes again! This looks like one designer I’m not going to favor anytime soon. This color blocked dress and its cut weren’t doing Sandra Bullock any favors. Too many trends in one dress!

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior

Sorry J Law, this one was just wrong.
Sorry J Law, this one was just wrong.

You know it’s a fashion faux when it makes you a laughing stock on the internet. Enough said!

Emma Watson in Dior

...although the tangerine color actually works well for her.
…although the tangerine color actually works well for her.

Dior is a big name, but the designer wasn’t doing these girls any favors on the red carpet. I love fashion risks, especially when they’re by Emma Watson, but this one is a risk taken too far. Sorry, but it’s either pants or a dress. This mix is a fiasco!

Taylor Swift in Carolina Herrera

Is it me or does she look really small in that dress?
Is it me or does she look really small in that dress?

The dress itself doesn’t look so bad in the collection but didn’t make quite an impression on the red carpet. I’m not sure if it was the work of photo shop that made the dress look better, or was Taylor a little too small for the dress. Either way the dress didn’t flatter her small figure, and clashed horribly on the red carpet.

Other Notable Looks

Not every dress can make it to the top 5, but some can make a statement. Here are the ones that caught our eye as noteworthy.

Melissa McCarthy

Melissa proves, unlike the other famous plus-sized star Gabourey Sidibe who received negative feedback on twitter, that you can still be plus sized and gorgeous. She also proves that sometimes you don’t need a designer readymade dress to make it work. Her dress is a custom black gown with silver details, that was a collaboration between herself, seamstress Daniela Kurrle, and stylist George Kotsiopoulos.

Helen Mirren in Jenny Pachham

Leave aging beauty to the British! Helen Mirren wore beaded and ruched chiffon Jenny Packham in mint green with vintage emerald and diamond jewels from Bulgari.

Julia Roberts in Dolce & Gabbana

Strapless gowns are way too common nowadays. Julia Roberts stood out in a more modest dress, that didn’t get her a lot of thumbs up on the red carpet, but we think the dress was a lovely risqué take paired with a jeweled belt and Harry Winston jewels. And hey when your f****** Julia Roberts at 40 something, you can pull off a collar in the awards just as well as spaghetti straps!
