I’m not sure if all of you readers know that the MTV Video Music Awards were last Sunday. With all that’s happening on our side of the world, it can be hard to keep track of international events. We weren’t lucky to catch it live but we went through it online. We were hoping to find some fashion sense and –thanks to Miley Cyrus- were left with a realization that yes, there are people who lack any common sense … even more than the MB (Muslim Brotherhood). Putting the show aside, let’s talk fashion! Here are my picks for the best, worst, controversial, and notable looks of the night.
Taylor Swift in Hervé Léger By Max Azria
Winner of Best Female Video Award was dressed to win! Swift was easily the most elegant on the red carpet. In the midst of so many crazy outfits, she stood out in this body-con dress, which flattered her slim figure, with a new hair-do and sultry make-up.
American model and actress wowed the crowd and skipped the big names with this deep purple dress. This just proves my theory that you don’t need a house name to sweep the masses of their feet.
Naya Rivera in Vintage Paco Rabanne
Glee’s star went for a classic LBD, she looked flawless from head to toe. Overall, it’s a safe choice for a big event without a particular dress code. And she rocked it right with well placed cut-outs, sparkling rings and nothing else over-the-top.
Miley Cyrus in vintage Dolce & Gabbana
We’re not sure if Miley finally figured out that her new hair was too awful to bear so she ended up tying them into two knots from shame ,or she was trying to deviate our attention from the even hideous outfit! I’m not sure what it is yet; but I’m guessing it’s a cross between a belly dancer’s uniform & something horrendous Madonna wore back in the 80’s!
Katy Perry in Emanuel Ungaro
Katy Perry decided to celebrate her new single, ROAR, by arriving in literally the worst leopard dress I’ve ever seen. To add insult to injury, she had her teeth encrusted ready for her roar/growl. Someone tell Perry that if having shiny things stuck on your teeth was anywhere near attractive, most of us wouldn’t have spent their teen years being laughed at!
Ciara in Givenchy
We think Ciara was black mailed to wear that dress; from the looks of it, she seems as excited about it as we are.
There were a few dresses we couldn’t quite make up our minds about – it’s either love at first sight or I- just- hate- it situation! So the choice is yours…
Selena Gomez in Atelier Versace
I’m not sure if something’s wrong with Disney or are these actresses trying too hard to tell us they’re finally off-age? From one aspect, this dress could come off as a combination of trend setter meets elegance. On the other hand, it’s a single breasted gown! What do you think of it? Thumbs up for the Cinderella slippers though!
Rita Ora in Alexandre Vauthier Couture
It’s easy to see why people confused the British singer for Beyonce as she hit the red carpet. Not only do they have similarities and same colored hair but also a bold sense of style. Personally I like Ora’s outfit, but I can see why the overlarge train (which needed an attendant to carry) could be perceived as too much and the mid-riff a little out of place.
Lady Gaga in Prabal Gurung
It took me a few minutes to figure out who this is and a few more clicks to confirm. Yes it is Lady Gaga – turns out she is human after all! It seems like a relief to see her face, free from all the overloaded make-up and in a dress that I wouldn’t mind wearing. That is if they removed that net train.
Other Notable Outfits
It’s the VMA’s and not everyone sticks to red carpet attire but never the less, it’s always fun to see something different on the red carpet. That said, here are a few outfits that caught my eye even if they’re not the most fab on the list, and because I never tire from talking about fashion, I still found them worth mentioning.
Jennifer Hudson in Christian Dior
Hudson looked great in a two piece by Dior. Personally, I’d do anything for that leather skirt.
Coco Rocha in Fausto Puglisi
The Canadian fashion model went for a punk look that totally flattered that studded Fausto Puglisi jacket.
The American teen actress & singer’s outfit captured my heart. Not only does it suit her age, but I love how she managed to combine a girly & edgy look in one outfit. I’ll be looking out for this little one on the red carpet in the future.
Rihanna in Rihanna for River Island
I know she skipped the red carpet and headed straight for her seat, but I couldn’t skip her casual look upgraded with a lot of bling accessories, heels & a matte lip. There’s something cool & relaxed going on here – just the way I like it.
What do you think?
You’ve heard my opinion, now tell me yours! Which celebrity do you think was best dressed? Which outfit was the worst? Do you agree with my selection? I’d love to know who you’d vote for with a comment.
