If you’ve been living under a rock, Pokémon Go is a gaming application that’s been released around about a month, and the basic gist of it is that you walk around your town to catch Pokémons, and conquer gyms. It’s supposed to be a simulation of the TV show and original Gameboy and Nintendo games, where you basically “travel across the land, searching far and wide” for powerful creatures called Pokémons, and ultimately becoming a Pokémon Master.

Pokémon Go has taken the world by storm, and has become a global craze reaching a total of 22 million active players although the game has yet to be officially released in many countries. In just a matter of one week, Pokemon Go has already been downloaded more than the dating Tinder app which came out in 2012.  It seems as if everyone is far more interested in catching a Pikachu then finding their soul mate. Not only that, it seems it might as well be beating Twitter. Everyone is searching all around for a Pikachu, or a Dragonair to complete their Pokémon collection in this game and rightfully claim to have caught ‘em all.

That being said, we’re here today to provide you with 10 tips and tricks to optimize your Poké-hunting experience:

1.    Use Pokévision:

Pokevision.com is a website that helps you track down the exact locations to the Pokémon nearby, and really at any location you provide it with. It also lets you know of the amount of time left for the Pokémon at said location before it de-spawns (disappears).

2.    Use A Candy Calculator:

Use a tool/ website like http://www.pidgeycalc.com/ to help you calculate the number of said-Pokémon that you need to catch prior to evolving them.

3.    Turn Off AR (Augmented Reality):

Although it’s funny to find a Magikarp in your toilet, it’s very inconvenient when your hand is shaky, thus making it harder for you to actually catch it. Turning off the AR makes it significantly easier to catch the desired Pokémon.

4.    Go Poké-hunting with Your Friends:

Sounds blatant enough, but catching Pokémon is much more fun when you’re out with your friends and hogging the Eevees all around.

5.    Wiggle Your Pokéball to Gain Extra XP:

Wiggle your Pokéball around for a bit before throwing it at the Pokémon to a gain an extra bit of XP.

6.    Check moves:

Although the Pokémon with the higher CP points is stronger, you should check the moves. For example, if you have one Pidgey that is slightly stronger than another, but the weaker one knows Wing attack and Gust, while the stronger one just knows tackle, it is better to go with the Pokémon that has the better move set. Also, check how much damage the move can inflict in your opponents.

7.    How to get Pikachu as a starter:

Even though many of you have probably already chosen your starter, here is a way for you to get Pikachu as a starter Pokémon. When you start the game and you have to choose your starter, you will get three options: Charmander, Bulbusaur, and Squirtle. You can catch anyone of them on your own, but Pikachu does not seem to be an option yet. First, select each of the starter Pokémon but instead of trying to catch them, click run. Once you have done that to all three of them, walk away from all of the starters. As you keep walking away from them, the starters will appear again, but you keep walking away from them. By the fourth or fifth time they appear, a Pikachu will pop up with the other three Pokémon! Then you can make your catch.

8.    Go to populated areas:

You can find Pokémon just about anywhere, but if you want to catch lots of them, the best way to go is populated areas. Parks and cities are good areas for finding them. Parks are the best because many of them have multiple Pokéstops, so you will never run out of Pokéballs. City Stars in Nasr city is chalked full of Pokémon to catch!

9.    Go to parking lots:

Parking lots are full of Pokémon to catch especially if they are close to a Pokéstop.

10.    Dodge at the start of the battle:

In order to dodge at the beginning of a battle, swipe left or right. This is good because it will give you an extra attack or two before your opponent can keep up. This technique is even more effective with small fast Pokémon.

In Pokémon Go it is hard to find lots of Pokémon but it doesn’t need to be. With these tips you will be able to enjoy the game to its maximum potential. You should always remember to have fun while playing, and to also stay safe by straying away from playing whilst driving.  No Pokémon out there are worth the risk – especially the ones on the highway!
