Hello readers, please join me as I create wearable everyday outfits from other-worldly runway collections!
I must say I’m not sure if the fashion world is getting out of hand or am I getting old! I’ve been skimming through many collections, each one failing me after the other; until I set my eyes on the Lanvin Resort collection for 2017; yes, the fashion world evolves faster than your Pokémons, love. French designer, Bouchra Jarrar, who just took over as Artistic Director of Lanvin last March, had just two months to work on this collection, but her minimalist style stands out with flair amidst the chaotic current fashion scene.
I say minimalist but it’s anything but boring; with expected pops of color, floral patterns, and classy layering of fabric, the collection is a bit of the classy side we’ve been missing lately, and drooling over in series like Grand Hotel, but with modern edge.
So get inspired and have fun breaking down these outfits. I tackled the ones that can fit our smoldering summer days in August, but you can always get inspiration from the other outfits for chillier days to come.
1. Classy 1930s inspired
Jarrar’s designs are influenced by the 1930s evening wear, a time when it was all about simple, relaxed elegance. There is something quite alluring in this look. In spite of its minimalistic sense, it is the contrast between fabrics and the light dab of pattern that gives it this aura of classic beauty.
You might think the key is to find a similar dress, but the beauty here is that this outfit can be re-interpreted with every day pieces from your favorite stores. Simply wear a sheer patterned blouse (you can go as loud or as minimal as you like) over a basic maxi black dress. I added a metal cuff bracelet like Vogue’s model and picked out a pair of shoes similar to those worn in the collection.

2. When you have to go to work, but its summer!
I like the professional yet cool vibe in this look. Jarrar promises to create wearable clothes for all women, and I must say she doesn’t disappoint. I like how this look is a cross between sophisticated and comfy.
The polished vibe might make the outfit seem unachievable; but its simple loose pants, a tee, and a vest! I replaced the neck details with some fun accessories. Don’t forget a statement bag with a pop of color that is sure to turn heads with this minimalistic outfit.
Bonus: With longer sleeves and a scarf this outfit could be easily altered to fit veiled ladies. Keep the scarf neutral to preserve the minimalist vibe or exchange the pop of color in the bag for the scarf!
3. Oh Sheer!
For the love of all that’s sheer this summer! Sheer has been everywhere lately, and the number of outfits in this collection that offers ideas for how to style it is just delightful!
So you’ve probably seen these sheer pieces, like the one in the photo above, with no clue how they were meant to be styled (don’t fret I’ve been there). So instead of tying blouses like these in a knot over jeans, try layering it over a white dress. Pair this outfit with bold accessories and flat sandals. I included 2 pairs of sandals; the flat-bed pair is similar to the model’s, and, while this is quite in fashion, not everyone’s taken a liking to it so I included another cute pair of thong sandals I came by. Put it all together and you’ve got yourself the Lanvin Resort look!
