Hello everyone and welcome back to Infusion with Fashion! We hope you’ve missed us as much as we’ve missed you. So since Pre-Fall 2014, runway shows are already hitting home, I thought I’d cover a show of one of my favorite designers Philip Lim. If you don’t know the American designer of Chinese descent, you’re missing out! Lim is one designer who knows how to create clothes that look cool & feminine, is not afraid to mix and match, while giving menswear for women a whole new twist of his own. This pre-fall collection, inspired by his trip to Berlin, was no exception in the matter of coolness while still making quite a fashion statement.
1. Feminine Warmth
Who said warm has to be frumpy? Warm, polished sweaters with interesting graphics & designs are totally in this season. They’re also super comfy and fun to wear to college or on a day out, that’s why I love this outfit. Pair it with a simple skirt and tights and you have a feminine outfit that’s bound to have heads turning mid-winter.
For a similar look, I paired a unique patterned high-collar sweater with a simple mid-length skirt (the skirt can be any length or fit that suits you) and fleece tights for extra warmth. Match them with elegant booties with a front buckle like these and a faux fur bag inspired by the model’s fleece version.
2. Clues from the Boys
A blazer is one of those pieces that instantly add sophistication to an outfit; it’s also a great addition in winter for extra warmth. This outfit manages to merge the formality of a suit with the new menswear inspired fad. But what really takes this outfit to the next level is how it is down played, and the cool vibe that the sneakers give.
Get this look by pairing suit pants – or any other style of loose pants- with a white tank top & a black sweater. I used different length tops to mimic the style of the top in the outfit, and added a black boyfriend blazer. Since the outfit is kind of loose and baggy, I added wedge sneakers (you remember when Beyonce made those famous in her music video of Love on Top?). If you’re not a fan of these shoes, you can always play it safe with the simple oxfords. Lastly, throw in a leopard bag to add a pattern to this black and white outfit.
3. All in the Blazer
By now you should know that I’m a huge fan of blazers. But I’m an even bigger fan of them when they come in colors, patterns or any other form(s). This outfit reminds me of a combination I myself use, the loose fitting blazer and the mini dress or skirt. This outfit combination is one that can take you from a day out to a formal setting or a family dinner. It’s elegant, easy and flexible.
Recreate this outfit by pairing a pretty mini dress – with a bit of subtle glitter- and a blazing red blazer. Add a pair of trendy buckle booties and winter tights and you’re ready to go! Piece of cake…
