“I Never Knew My Dog Could Dream”

Photo taken by Aya Telmissany

I never knew my dog could dream.

She dreams of running.

Every night, I see her

Lying on her side

Feet beating relentlessly

Against the silent air of night.

I can never tell what kind of

Dream she is having

Where could she be running to?

Is she running home?

Is she running from danger?

Am I the one she’s running to?

I lie half asleep on my side

And watch her run till

I slumber off. I have some

Running of my own

To do if I wake up in

The morn. Will I be running from

danger? Will I be running home?

Will you be the one

I am running to? Will I

be running out of

time? Or running around in

Circles? Or even running at

All?

About Aya Telmissany

I am a 22 year old AUCian, an English and Comparative Literature major, a Creative Writing minor and a poet. I am a fiction writer here at CairoContra. I basically read and when I’m not reading I am either buying books, sniffing books, looking up some new books online, taking pictures of my books (and my dog), or writing books (at least that’s what I hope I’m doing).
