In 1912, one of my favorite snacks was born; Oreo! I’m sure you’ve heard of it, but if for some reason you haven’t, I’ll proudly introduce to you “Milk’s Favorite Cookie”, that I absolutely love.
Milk and Oreo have been known to get along together, but what happens when Oreos are not satisfied with being just a sidekick? We face what I would like to call: “The Oreo Phenomenon”, whereby treats that definitely go beyond the famous “Twist it, Lick it and Dunk it” slogan, have emerged with the main not-so-secret ingredient; OREO.
Cairo’s dessert scene has most certainly been invaded by the aforementioned Oreo Phenomenon, and I, as an Oreo lover, felt entitled to indulge into this delightful situation and explore its aspects.
You must have noticed that last year, every other day, a new ice cream rolls shop popped up around the corner, and this would drive us to the simple idea of turning the things we liked into ice cream. Sometimes, it didn’t turn out as expected, just like the bubble gum flavor, and sometimes, it did actually taste good, like the Oreo ice cream rolls.I had it with chocolate sauce topping at Bouza Roll-Zamalek, Add & Roll-Zamalek, and Hubbly Bubbly-Mohandessin. Honestly, they all tasted almost the same.
And of course, McDonald’s didn’t miss a beat with the famed Oreo McFlurry right on their menu.
Oreo ice cream is typically risk-free, delicious, and refreshing.
Moving on to Oreo and cake combinations, my next stop was to the renowned Nola Cupcakes-Zamalek. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed with their cupcakes at all. On the contrary, The Four Fat Ladies-Zamalek blew my mind away with their Chocolate fudge with Oreo frosting cake pot. IT IS HEAVENLY! But then, there was the Salted Caramel Oreo Cheesecake, as well as the Chocolate Salted Caramel Oreo Cheesecake, I can’t say those weren’t fine, but they could have definitely been better as Say Cheese-Nasr City upped the competition a bit with their Oreo Cheesecake. The cheesecake itself, as well as the crumbs, was bursting with this delicious Oreo taste, so you’re filled with this delightful mix of flavors!
The next dish is a collaboration between Oreo and Red Velvet (which seems to be everywhere too); The Red Velvet Oreo from Chicken Fil-A-Mohandessin. Deep Fried Red Velvet cake balls stuffed with Oreo, which is then delicately topped with powdered sugar, and with cream cheese on the side. To be honest, I didn’t expect to like it but I kind of did! It was a bit dry, though. Perhaps it needed to be fluffier and juicier. What was supposedly cream cheese,- I’m still quite sure it was not- was sweet but I would suggest to stuff it with Oreos, as well as adding another dip to accompany the dish.
Last but not least, I was expecting something different from L’Eclair Paris-Mohandessin’s exclusive Oreo Eclair, but the eclair didn’t only lack flavor, but also it was just topped with Oreos and extra chocolate. Maybe they should trying mixing up the filling with a bit of Oreo?!
What do you think?
Now, that you’ve read the outcome of my Oreo inspection; What is your favorite Oreo treat? Let us know in the comments!
